Secondary Seals for WS, DC, W2 or WWC Spools

All WHI spools are provided with a secondary seal in the lower flanged connection. This seal allows for annulus pressure control as well as the possibility of increases in pressure rating between the lower and upper connection. These seals have been designed for efficient operation and reliability at various conditions.

Each type of seal provides for an integral bit guide either in the interchangeable sleeve or machined directly into the wellhead body. Bit guides protect the seal bore and help direct inner tubular strings. Inside diameters of the bit guides maintain the API minimum restricted bore based on the lightest standard casing weight.

WSS Secondary Seal

The type WSS secondary seal incorporates self energizing O-ring seals to maintain annulus pressure isolation. The seal can be changed to allow a range of casing sizes within the same spool. This type of seal is applicable to 5,000 psi pressure rated service.

Integral P Seal

The integral P seal incorporates a mechanically energized elastomer ring to maintain annulus pressure isolation. Anti-extrusion materials allow for higher pressure service than conventional O-rings. The seals are energized by injecting plastic packing behind the seal ring. This allows for reenergizing the seal while a spool is still in service. Integral P seals provide dependable service through 15,000 psi pressure rating.

Floating P Seal

The floating P seal operates in the same manner as our integral P seal while allowing for interchangeability within the spool. Floating P seals provide dependable service through 15,000 psi pressure rating.
